When we embody our values of kindness and respect, we model what we do want. We show others the behavior we want without preaching about it.  Others can feel it and emulate with dignity and enthusiasm. Ernest Holmes stated this:

“I realize that all the Good there is, all the Presence there is, all the Power there is, is immediately available and responsive to my acceptance. “[1]

When I accept this power, we can easily attract others by how we behave.

Today’s Story

Rayanne was asked to co-lead a poetry group at the local community center. At first our star felt a bit intimidated by the diversity of those attending and by how they behaved. Some members seemed to dominate the gathering. One participant spoke to another in a near belligerent tone.  Some were so much stronger personalities than others. What to do?

Next meeting Rayanne took the reins, holding out that the group was respectfully offering each person time and attention to read their pieces.

As she led,  the fellow who previously dominated went out of his way to be supportive and kind to the soft spoken woman. At the next meeting that man smiled a lot and and upon leaving stated how much he enjoyed the group.

When it was R’s turn to read a poem, she read ones that felt uplifting, bringing forth descriptions of beauty and the best qualities of human kind.

Summary

Wow with a new leadership style the group’s atmosphere changed without any references to rules, unwanted behavior or stern lectures.

Rayanne observed her influence, focusing on respect for all, had the desired effect. Hold the wanted atmosphere oneself, and be the example. Reach for a light hearted presence.
