We can find ourselves afraid of what happens to someone else. Let’s reframe those thoughts as we notice them.

She Took it Personally

Katelyn, one of five children, learned that one of her siblings suffered a fall. The 66-year-old brother Pete seemed most vulnerable of her family, a man living with autism and Parkinson’s disease, residing in an excellent group home.

In the last two months Pete’s accident damaged one of his legs. He was briefly hospitalized and then received physical therapy as his residence stepped up to provide what services he needed.

Immediately Katelyn felt frightened for Pete. She monitored his situation, visited, and increased her communication with him.

Then in going deeper with herself she heard herself saying, “Life is so fragile.”

She continued, “As I scan what’s going on with me, I notice my fear that I might fall increased. I wonder if MY balance is good enough.”

Counselor: Your brother took a tumble. Then you felt your fear that you are susceptible to taking a fall.

We are dealing with a fear that came up in you.

Now that fear has a bit of momentum and as a habit, you are focusing on the bad things that can happen. Law of Attraction tells us that on what we put focus attracts what we get.

And like the fires that spread, when we catch a spark immediately, we can put that out before damage is done.

Instead, we want to enjoy focusing on what we DO WANT. We can say, ‘I am balanced and strong and am becoming more so. I work out and enjoy a brisk walk.

You care about your brother. And, you notice old dusky fears that rise up and you take a moment to gently shift them. Kindness to self and redirect that energy – that self soothing  feels better!

Now surveying the scene Pere has more kindness flowing to him, more connection in his home and with his siblings.

You can put attention on how much is going well, your own power, balance and resilience.”

Katelyn: “Yes, I feel that shift inside myself. I believe in my strength and how much I am growing. I thrive now.”
