We want to know that the Good in Life is always with us. Various blips on our path show up; we feel our primitive reactions. Can we keep reaching for calm from that base of trust? Is it akin to skiing the slopes of our upset, heading down hill with as much grace as we can muster.  Here is one account:

Melena’s Day

Interesting Stream, 16 x 20, Acrylic on Canvas, $400

Melena had been writing a weekly blog for years and used a service to distribute the pieces. On the designated mail out morning M checked her messages and saw no indication of successful mailing.

Soon the Heroine sat at her computer intending to figure out what happened. To her horror, her laptop would not let her into her website dashboard. What? M got an error message new to her. In effect our Star was prohibited for getting to her own site? What?

Fear rose up in her—as though she had no control. Wow! She had the presence to click “learn more” , read the provided narratives on what was happening and Google suggestions for remedies. Oh Gosh that list of things to try was long and barely understandable.

Next, M called a friend who knows something about computers. In talking with him more emotion flooded her, then after a few minutes she calmed a bit. Bottom line: though the friend was kind to offer assistance, she realized he did not have the knowledge to fix the error.

Then this dear woman informed her webmaster what was going on.  There was no immediate response from him.

Review the Situation

Melena sat there reviewing the situation. For the immediate future, she wanted to calm herself down. M really did not possess the competence to go further. In her gut she discerned that without the know-how and with panic flooding, she could easily screw up many functions on her computer and compound her problems. NO!

Our gal got clear that gardening was the way to go. At this time of year, M possessed seedlings to plant. Studying the beds, Melena spotted opportunities to rearrange what had been planted and identify more spots where new ones could grow.

Forces of Good provided a temperate day amidst a very hot spell. M had a wonderful time working.

Self Soothing

Here is some of the soothing talk this protagonist spoke to herself internally:

M came in for lunch. Then she took a nap. Getting so upset had taken a toll on her. A nap reboot sounded great!

After that, she started reading past posts to find inspiration for a new one.

Midafternoon a friend called her with a predicament to discuss, and the connection blossomed into quite an uplifting conversation for both of them. It felt heaven sent.

Soon Melena spied a quick message from her web guy. I am fixing this. Stand by. And he did.

Point of the Story:

The heroine did her best to calm herself while waiting for rescue. She had developed sufficient mastery such that she could slow the upset by getting her focus onto something she loves.

(In another scenario she could have kept reviewing the upset and getting more wound up. She could have started to mess with her system and in panic make matters worse. No, she flowed along.)

And for her web guy it was no big deal and quickly set aright.

Another case for using ourselves toward trusting Life. Forces of Good prevailed!
