We have so much power to influence our lives in the attitude we take. This example involves dogs—please read on.
The New Neighbors

Valerie lived in a house adjoining an empty lot. One year the landowner informed her that the extra parcel was sold and a new house would be built there. Time passed and new neighbors appeared. They owned two dogs.
The dogs had a fenced in backyard in which to spend time. Valerie relished her flower gardening and her beds were located near the fence. As the situation began, she felt tense as the dogs barked ferociously when she came out to tend the flowers.
V’s heart sank. She thought, “Oh dear, I want to play in my garden in peace. These dogs are treating me as if I am a dangerous stranger! Yuck!”
Summer months went by. My! those dogs were persistent. Valerie did her best to tune out the noise and energy of those dogs.
Valerie did have in mind there must be some way she could shift the situation.
Toward the end of the winter, our heroine was chatting with her financial advisor, Glenn, who resided 500 miles north. For Heaven’s sake, this man who had handled her accounts for most of twenty years, informed her he had owned and loved dogs his whole life.
The Insight
Glenn explained that when dogs bark, they want attention.
Valerie was struck. “Oh wow, what if those dogs just want me to notice them! I could offer them some attention. Already, I had started to talk back to them.”
The revelation had a big impact. The Star no longer felt negative energy from the dogs. They were not readying to attack her. She shifted her attitude toward them.
Instead of cringing and fearing them, she gave them a big hello and worked in her garden in happiness.
Guess what? The dogs soon lost interest in her. They just wandered around their yard cheerfully sniffing and doing dog things quietly.
Take Away
Our attitude of fear has tremendous influence—We feel threatened and uncomfortable. We were the cause of that! We can change and make more ease for ourselves!
In what other matters may we become more comfortable?
